The coupon in question was given to a Panera employee at a store in Dallas, Texas, a Paneras spokeswoman told ESPN.
Panera did not immediately return a request for comment.
In April, Panera employees told employees in a survey that they received an April 1 coupon that said, “We’re giving away $1,000 worth of Panera bread for a year to all of you.”
The Panera spokesman said the company did not give out any coupons for April 1, but instead sent out an email to employees asking them to complete a survey on April 1 to find out what the coupon said.
“We’re looking into this,” the spokesman said.
“We have a very good relationship with Panera and our customers.”
The coupon has since been removed from Panera’s website.
